We are proud sponsors of this year’s True/False Film Fest!

The True/False Film Fest is an annual documentary film festival that takes place in our hometown of Columbia, Missouri. For one long weekend in March, the fest brings together an array of imaginative and thought-provoking films and transforms our little downtown district into a magical place for both visitors and locals. The streets are lined with beautiful art installations, musicians and buskers abound, and our restaurants and bars buzz with engaging conversations.

In the fest’s own words, “this is an extraordinarily vital time for nonfiction filmmaking as an artistic form. Our goal is to forge a supportive, celebratory refuge for filmmakers and amplify the possibilities of creative nonfiction. True/False exists in a permeable, in-between land – bounded by fiction and nonfiction, but also bridging cultures and disciplines. Within that space, we encourage an atmosphere of innovation and excitement, free of the heat and stress of the market. Herein are the ingredients for a revolutionary new alloy, the future of an urgent art.”

As locals to Columbia, we have attended the festival for years, enjoying the many films, artists, and musicians that it brings together. This year we decided to take our appreciation for True/False a step further and sponsor a film! The film we are sponsoring is “It Runs In The Family” directed by Victoria Linares Villegas.

In this intimate film, Victoria Lanares Villegas puts herself and her family in front of the camera to honor the memory of her distant cousin who was also a filmmaker in the 1950s. All of us here at Ikaria Design Co. are honored to sponsor this film that examines the roots of trauma within an immediate family, the intersection of family secrets, political and social oppression, and the role national families such as the US and Europe have played in the trauma of our cousins in the Caribbean.

The director successfully employs her artistic skills to both remember and carry on the work of Oscar Torres with every cinematic technique and manages to bring the viewer deep into the healing of her own family in a way that gives hope for all families who harbor secrets and trauma.

We hope you all can have the pleasure of seeing this moving and beautiful film, and experience the true magic of the fest with us this March!
