We’re a certified
B Corp!
What is a B Corp?
Certified B Corporations (B corps) have been verified through a rigorous assessment process as meeting high standards for social and environmental impact, and are committed to using business as a force for good.
It’s a really big deal!
Certification confirms that we are part of a global community of businesses working collectively for economic systems change, committing to consider the interests of all stakeholders: workers, customers, communities, and the environment.
How did we get certified?
Sustainability and ethical manufacturing have remained at the core of our business since the very beginning. With every decision we make, we consider the impact it will have on our customers, our workers, and our planet, so when we learned about B Lab and their Impact Assessment, we knew this certification was worth pursuing for Ikaria Design Company. What we didn’t realize was how difficult, yet incredibly rewarding, it would be!
To become B Corp certified, we were required to:
Commit to considering the interests of all stakeholders in our business operations: workers, customers, communities, and the environment.
Agree to be transparent on five impact areas: governance, workers, customers, communities, and the environment.
Complete a comprehensive questionnaire, including substantiating evidence, followed up with an interview and several reviews by B Lab analysts.
Achieve a minimum verified score of 80 on the B Impact Assessment.
Commit to recertify every three years. This requires us to satisfy the ever-changing standards and expectations of the certification each time and, ideally, raise our score even higher.
As consumers ourselves, seeing the B Corp logo on a product’s packaging is a reassurance of shared values. It shows that that company is also working toward shifting our economic system from profiting only a few to benefiting all, from concentrating wealth and power to ensuring equity, from extraction to regeneration, and from prioritizing individualism to embracing interdependence.
Especially now, after going through the verification process, we know that seeing the B Corp logo means that a company practices what it preaches. We are so delighted to officially be a part of this community of folks using business as a force for good.
The B stands for Benefit for all.
Being certified as B Corporation (or ‘B Corp’) means that a company has gone through a rigorous assessment and is verified as meeting B Lab’s high standards for social and environmental impact, that it has made a legal commitment to stakeholder governance, and that it is demonstrating accountability and transparency by disclosing this record of performance in a public B Corp profile (check ours out here).
