How to use your HSA to purchase a Soul Seat.

Who knew that HSA funds could be used to purchase a chair designed to prevent doctor visits?

We’ve recently been informed by a new customer that they tapped their HSA funds to purchase their Soul Seat. This is great news! If you have an HSA, it can be applied to preventive care in the form of a chair that keeps you moving at work. Bonus: these are also pre-tax dollars!

This good news inspired us to do a bit of the up-front work for you. We’ve crafted a letter that your primary care doctor can sign on to, making this process a little easier. It gives you a starting point toward being able to utilize your HSA account to help you in your purchase of a Soul Seat.

The letter includes a couple of examples of the many medical research studies linking sedentary sitting to chronic health issues and the preventive benefits of active sitting. Simply download the PDF, ask your doctor to put it into their words or on their letterhead with their signature, and then you can present it to your HSA administrator to confirm that you can use funds in your account toward all or a portion of your Soul Seat purchase.

We often get requests from Soul Seat fans for materials to present to their physician, HR department, or HSA administrator. Believe it or not, sometimes all they are asking for is just permission to bring their own Soul Seat into work. In other cases, they’re looking for assistance toward the purchase. For clarity's sake, we don’t have medical device status for the Soul Seat, so we can’t make specific health claims. However, a few of our customers over the years have secured prescriptions from their primary physician, their Physical Therapist, Physiotherapist, or Occupational Therapist in order to justify their employer’s purchase of a Soul Seat.
